Smoothies for Clear Skin – From the Inside Out

We all know that fruits and vegetables are good for us, that is a given. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people do not get anywhere near the recommended daily serving amount of fruits and veggies.

However, nowadays the new thing is to make smoothies. Why? Because they are healthy and there are so many perks to drinking a smoothie daily. A little background as to why I begin making smoothies. When I moved for school the first thing I did was purchase a blender. I wanted the same blender my mother had because of how useful it is.

Furthermore, I know that when you’re away at a professional/graduate program vitamins are important. Due to all the reading and mental work you have to dedicate to your school work. I decided to make my own smoothies instead using fruits and veggies that are known to help my brain.

Every morning I would make breakfast and also make a smoothie before leaving to school. I stopped my daily coffee intake and replaced it with smoothies. Why? The benefits of these smoothies outweigh consuming coffee every morning. Additionally, these smoothies gave me a boost of energy, clear skin, and I wasn’t as tired as before.

Every week I would look up new recipes for what to include in my smoothies and what were the benefits of those fruits and veggies for my overall health.

Smoothie Recipe for: Glowing Skin

This recipe is loaded with ingredients known to have benefits for your skin. It is loaded with rich green vegetables and a spicy ginger taste.

What I use to make my green smoothie:

  • 1 handful of spinach
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1/4 avocado
  • 1 inch of ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of organic honey
  • 1 red apple
  • 1/4 orange juice

I always tend to include an apple in my smoothies for my own reasons. However, you can skip adding a red apple or maybe add a green apple to reduce the strong leafy flavor. I eat an apple a day so I usually include it in my smoothie. Once I begin making this smoothie I noticed my skin clearer and glowing. Additionally, I had a lot of energy to do things throughout the day.

I also reduced my coffee intake, I’m not much of a coffee person but I did like making it with my breakfast. However, now I usually have juice with my breakfast and when I’m about to leave the house for school/work I take my smoothie with me.

Smoothie Recipe: Menstrual Cycle and Acne

Your menstrual cycle can directly impact your skin and your hormones are to blame. Once a month, I make a smoothie for a week before my menstrual cycle. I have seen many benefits in incorporating this smoothie a week before my cycle begins.

What’s my secret? My smoothie is usually the same as the one listed about, however, I tend to add a banana. Bananas contain Vitamin C, which helps maintain the natural and youthful glow of the skin. Additionally, bananas help reduce cramps during your menstrual cycle. Bananas are rich in vitamin B6 and potassium, which can stop you from retaining water and feeling bloated.

I love smoothies, but I guess I have been kind of a wimp using simple fruit ingredients that I like. I have not tried any vegetable in my smoothie yet. So my question to you is this, does the smoothie still have a sweet flavor with the cucumber and other vegetables you add to it? I know they are all good for me and I should just try it. I am not a big fan of cucumber, ginger or spinach anyway, so that is why I ask LOL

    1. Hi Matt’s Mom,

During summer months I also make my own fruit smoothies to go with my meals. However, I need my veggies in the morning. I would say that it varies depending on the fruit you add to your smoothie. I honestly love veggies so I could drink an all green smoothie without any fruit. But because I I eat an apple a day I just implement it to my smoothie along with orange juice. It all depends on the fruit you like and whether it’ll tase good with the veggies. I would play around with the fruits you like along with the green veggies until you find one that you actually like. I feel that the honey also gives it the “sweet” flavor for me. I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you try fruits in your veggie and how it tastes for you.

This is great for someone who doesn’t quite care for vegetables but can eat fruits all day and all night long. I’ve often heard that the taste of fruit overpowers what I call the “green” taste of vegetables. Never been a vegetable eater in the slightest, but have always garnered good results when mixing them with fruit into a smoothie. Thank you so much for sharing.

    1. Thank you so much! Fruits are delicious and I honestly snack on them all day. I would say that it depends on the fruit you use that will actually switch up the taste. I also use honey and I feel that gives it a sweeter taste.
